Former Chennai Super Kings off spinner facing match-fixing charges slapped with travel ban

Chennai Super Kings off spinner facing match-fixing : Retired Sri Lanka cricketer Sachithra Senanayake has been slapped with a travel ban by the the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and is prohibited from travelling overseas.

A Colombo local court also imposed a ban on Sachithra Senanayake, a former Sri Lankan international who is currently accused of match-fixing, traveling to foreign nations. In the 2020 season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), the 38-year-old has been charged with match-fixing. He is accused of using phone calls to seduce two players into fixing games.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has requested that the former Sri Lanka off spinner be given a three-month travel ban by the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.

The Attorney General’s Office was able to obtain the court order. According to reports, the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry requested that Senanayake be charged with a crime from the Attorney General.

Senanayake made his debut for Sri Lanka in a One Day International (ODI) against South Africa on January 20, 2012, at Kimberley. Later, he participated in 49 matches in the 50-over format and took 53 victims, including a four-wicket haul.

His T20I debut occurred in 2012 as well, on June 1st, when Sri Lanka faced Pakistan in Hambantota. The right-arm off spinner took part in 24 T20 Internationals, to be exact, and claimed 25 victims while bowling with an impressive economy of 6 points 77 thanks to a four-for (4/46) in those matches.

Senanayake, who was widely regarded as a limited-overs specialist, struggled to find many opportunities in the sport’s longest format. He only played for the Lankan Lions in one red-ball match against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. With 112 First-Class games and 186 List A matches under his belt, the tall spinner has played a sizable amount of domestic cricket and has taken 567 and 283 wickets, respectively. He has played in 108 T20 games all over the world, taking 124 wickets total, including three four-wicket hauls.
